Transformative Pedagogy for Sustainability Education, Digital Innovation, and Future Competences

SustEduFuture+ is an Erasmus+ project running from 2025 to 2027, coordinated by Euphoria Net from Rome. It brings together schools, a university, and innovation companies from seven European countries to change how sustainability is taught in classrooms.

Most teachers across Europe want to address sustainability, but few have been trained to do it in a way that’s practical, cross-disciplinary, and genuinely engaging for students. This project tackles that gap directly.

The approach combines green skills and digital skills: not as separate topics, but as tools that work together. AI, virtual reality, and interactive simulations aren’t the point – they’re used to help students think in systems, make better decisions, and imagine different futures. These are exactly the competencies that research shows are most underdeveloped in European schools right now.

PROJECT PARTNERS

The project is coordinated by Euphoria Net (Italy) and includes Tampereen University (Finland), Innovation Frontiers IKE (Greece), BRGD (Belgium), Liepājas Raiņa vidusskola (Latvia), Scoala Nicolae Iorga (Romania), and Liceo Socrate (Italy).

WHAT THE PROJECT AIMS TO DO (OBJECTIVES)

In plain terms, the project wants to:

  • Give teachers concrete tools and methods to teach sustainability in an integrated, meaningful way
  • Bring AI and virtual reality into the classroom as learning tools, not just novelties
  • Help students develop critical thinking, systems thinking, and future-literacy
  • Recognise learning through badges and other strategies that keep motivation high
  • Connect sustainability education to civic values, human rights, and active citizenship
WHAT WE ARE WORKING ON (RESULTS)
  • An e-learning course to train teachers in sustainability education: practical, competency-based, and grounded in both green and digital frameworks
  • 70 ready-to-use classroom sequences on real sustainability challenges, designed around future-literacy skills and supported by AI and VR tools
  • An assessment toolkit based on digital badges, so students and teachers can recognise and document the competencies they develop
  • A Digital Hackathon where students work in teams to tackle real-world sustainability problems using digital solutions

All materials will be available in English, Italian, French, Finnish, Latvian, Greek, and Romanian.
